Join Senior Archivist Julie Crocker as she explores the remarkable scope and significance of the Georgian Papers Programme, the ambitious, international project to catalogue and digitise more than 300,000 pages of Georgian era manuscripts, 85% of which was previously unpublished.
The talk will discuss how the initiative has opened unprecedented access to the official and private papers of George III, George IV and William IV, their families and courtiers, reshaping our understanding of the Georgian monarchy.
Julie will also reflect on the project as an example of Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy, whose support and authorisation made the programme possible. As custodian of the Royal Archives, the late Queen championed efforts to broaden public access to royal history, and the GPP stands as a testament to her commitment to transparency, scholarship, and the preservation of Britain’s documentary heritage.
