Scottish writers across the centuries have been inspired by history connected with the Palace of Holyroodhouse. This half-term we are taking inspiration from writers and their stories.

    Book in a box

Many writers are inspired by places they visit, and objects that they see - some writers even collect memories, pictures and objects which they use to help them to write their stories. In this activity, make a book-box which you can use to gather ideas and inspiration for a story all about the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

    Palace paper puppets

Many writers have been inspired by the stories of people who lived at the palace. In fact some stories have been told for a very long time and will have been passed down from generation to generation. Storytelling was a very useful skill to entertain people. Make a puppet and hear about the story attached. Take your puppet home to help you tell the story you learn to others.

These activities will be delivered as drop-in sessions to one household at a time.

All events at the Palace of Holyroodhouse will be managed in line with COVID-secure procedures. Please see our Welcome Back page for more information.
