In this lunchtime lecture, Royal Collection Trust experts Francesca Levey (Arms and Armour Conservator) and Michelle Kirk (Furniture Conservator) discuss the conservation treatments used to prepare items for the exhibition Japan: Courts and Culture. Although the items in question – yari (spears) and a French roll-top desk – were alike in terms of decoration and deterioration, the treatment of the pieces was very different. Join Francesca and Michelle as they discuss the differing ways they approached the pieces and examine how they conserved the items to prepare them for display.
