In 1859, aged seventeen, the future Edward VII made a cultural visit to Rome. There he met Frederic Leighton. This experience set the tone for his future collecting, which reflects his artistic friendships, sporting interests and love of beautiful portraits. Join Royal Collection experts Kathryn Jones, Senior Curator of Decorative Arts, and Alex Buck, Assistant Curator of Paintings, in conversation with Daniel Robbins, Curator at Leighton House, to hear more about this fascinating relationship and the stories behind Leighton’s paintings in the Royal Collection.

Royal Collection Trust is a charity caring for the Royal Collection, one of the world’s great art collections. Income from your visit helps us to conserve and share the Collection so that it can be enjoyed by everyone, wherever they are.
