Join us for the latest in our series of hands on, creative courses in collaboration with The School of Historical Dress and learn all about corsetry in Edwardian clothing. This taster course will provide participants with an introduction to the different techniques used to make clothes during this period including women's evening wear, corsetry and men’s clothing.
The Edwardian period saw a radical change in the construction of women's underpinnings. This course will focus on the different types of boning: baleen, Turkey feather boning, flat metal and spiral boning. Different materials were used to create different styles, from the 'Gibson Girl' extreme 'S' shaped corsets to the lightweight ones of the late Edwardian period.
Participants will be able to study several examples of corsets, underwear and silk bodices from The School of Historical Dress's own collection, including couture pieces from c.1895-1905, and then be guided to make their own samples of the different types.
Your ticket will also include a private view of the exhibition, The Edwardians: Age of Elegance at The King's Gallery, Buckingham Palace, and can be converted into a 1-Year Pass, allowing you to visit our current and future exhibitions at The King's Gallery, Buckingham Palace as many times as you like within the next year.
