The Holocaust marks the darkest period in what is now just within living memory, when a third of Europe’s Jews were murdered by the Nazi regime. During 2021 His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Patron of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, commissioned seven artists to paint the portraits of a group of seven survivors of the Holocaust, who all sought refuge and made Britain their home. Each of the seven sitters has their own poignant story to tell and these portraits are a tribute to their passing generation and a testament to their extraordinary resilience and courage.

This beautifully illustrated publication features newly commissioned paintings by acclaimed artists Paul Benney, Clara Drummond, Peter Kuhfeld, Ishbel Myerscough, Massimiliano Pironti, Stuart Pearson Wright and Jenny Saville, an introduction by bestselling writer of history and fiction Simon Sebag Montefiore and a foreword by HRH The Prince of Wales.

Accompanies the exhibition Seven Portraits: Surviving the Holocaust at The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace (27 January–13 February 2022), and The Queen’s Gallery, Palace of Holyroodhouse (17 March–6 June 2022). The portraits also feature in the documentary Survivors: Portraits of the Holocaust, first broadcast on BBC Two on 27 January to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
