Photograph of Queen Victoria's collie Noble. The dog is lying on the ground facing right with his head in the air. Noble was given to Queen Victoria by Lady Charles Ker on 24th May 1872, when he was 14 months old. For over 15 years he was a favourite dog of the Queen. When he died at Balmoral in 1887 this inscription was engraved on the tombstone: 'NOBLE BY NAME BY NATURE NOBLE TOO, FAITHFUL COMPANION SYMPATHETIC TRUE, HIS REMAINS ARE INTERRED HERE'.
