    Prince Albert (the second son of the future King George V) and Lady Elizabeth first met at a children’s party in 1905, when he was ten years old and she was five. When they met again in June 1920 the Duke of York, as he had become, fell in love with her. Early in 1923 Lady Elizabeth accepted his proposal of marriage and they were married in April that year.
