The Ball at the Guildhall, 9 July 1851

dated 1851

Watercolour and bodycolour | 29.4 x 43.0 cm (whole object) | RCIN 920218

Victoria and Albert were the guests of honour at a ball held by the Lord Mayor of London on 9 July to celebrate the successful opening of the Great Exhibition. Victoria described the Guildhall as ʻbeautifully decorated & crowded with peopleʼ. This watercolour was likely presented to them as a memento of the occasion.
