At the Great Exhibition the Queen, intrigued perhaps by the play on her own name, bought both this small bronze and a life-size marble version of the same figure, one of six Victories originally made for the Valhalla at Regensburg, commissioned by King Ludwig I to honour the great men of Bavaria.

Purchased by Queen Victoria in November 1851
