The Glaubensschild (Shield of Faith)

A christening present from the King of Prussia for his godson, Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, the shield embodies the Biblical exhortation to ‘put on the whole armour of God’. The cast and chased scenes include the four Evangelists, the twelve Apostles (carved in cameo) and the Progress of the Holy Spirit.

Commissioned by King Frederick William IV in 1842 and presented to Albert Edward, Prince of Wales in 1847
