The Prince Regent commissioned Wilkie to paint a picture to act as a pair to The Country Choristers by Edward Bird. Much influenced by Dutch and Flemish genre scenes, it shows an excited group of people of mixed ages playing the game where participants call out to the blindfolded figure while dodging out of his way.
