JEAN ANTOINE LÉPINE (1720-1814)

Mantel Clock

1790

RCIN 30390

With her bow and quiver, this figure resembles an African Diana, goddess of hunting, a theme continued in the central plaque of the base where putti are shown carrying dead game on a stretcher. A pull of the left earring will prompt the clock to play one of its eight tunes, whilst a pull of the right will reveal the hours in the figure’s left eye and the minutes in her right.

Purchased by George IV, 1790
