Rosalba Giovanna Carriera (Venice 1675-Venice 1757)
A self-portrait c. 1745
RCIN 452375
The Venetian artist Rosalba Carriera was renowned throughout Europe for her portraits in pastel. This self-portrait was one of her last works before the onset of blindness in 1746. It was probably made as a gift to her friend and patron, Joseph Smith, the British Consul in Venice.
