Trooping the Colour

3 Jun 1972

RCIN 2943897

Each year the Sovereign’s official birthday in June is marked by The Queen’s Birthday Parade on Horse Guards, Whitehall. In 1972 The Queen, riding side-saddle on Burmese, took the salute as the Colour was ‘trooped’ before her. That year The Queen’s Birthday Parade incorporated an Act of Remembrance for HRH The Duke of Windsor (previously King Edward VIII), who had died on 28 May. The Guards regiments take turns to troop their Colour. On this occasion it was the turn of the Coldstream Guards.
