The Queen visits Hull Royal Infirmary

18 May 1957

RCIN 2943864

There was a full programme planned for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh’s day in Hull, including a visit to the Royal Infirmary. The Queen is pictured outside the Infirmary, accompanied by Alderman Walter Holwell, Chairman of the Hospital Management Committee, and Miss PM Watson, Matron of the Infirmary. The nurse second from the right is Doreen Salt (née Burgess), a student at the time of the royal visit. Standing in their spotless uniforms, the nurses were required to wear white gloves – in case they were lucky enough to be introduced to The Queen and to shake her hand.
