ETIENNE DELAUNE (1518-83)

A design for a lidded cup

c.1560-80

RCIN 913052

Like the design for a ewer, this drawing by Delaune was probably intended for presentation to a patron. Delaune has envisaged pearls hanging from the cup, and precious stones set into the foot. The knop is a figure of Neptune astride a seahorse, while women with barley-twist legs support the bowl.
