URS GRAF (C. 1485-C. 1528)

A couple embracing on the shore of a lake

c.1516

RCIN 912183

The Swiss artist and mercenary Urs Graf was an idiosyncratic and prolific draughtsman. He examined the theme of lovers in numerous drawings, which were probably made for his own pleasure rather than for gift or sale. This drawing is a particularly good example of Graf’s deft and exuberant penmanship.
