PROBABLY RICHARD ROBERTS (ACTIVE 1714-29)

Stool

1726

RCIN 1005

The elegant curved, or cabriole leg on these stools suggests that they were supplied for a royal palace in the 1720s. They form part of a set, of which 13 survive, and are possibly connected to an order of twenty stools for the Great Gallery, Kensington Palace in 1726. The rich crimson silk damask covers are from an earlier stool or chair and were applied at a later date. Supplied to George I in 1726 Cat. 100
