BENJAMIN GOODISON (C.1700-1767)

Pair of stands

1732-33

RCIN 1231

This pair, along with the very similar pair (cat. 113), may be those delivered to Frederick, Prince of Wales’s apartment at Hampton Court Palace by Goodison as part of a set four in 1732 – 3. They were accompanied by four-light candelabra (also supplied by Goodison and which do not survive). Their design was inspired by classical precedent to incorporate an Ionic capital atop a female head. Supplied to Frederick, Prince of Wales Cat. 112
