CHELSEA PORCELAIN WORKS [LONDON] (C. 1745-69)

Chelsea Botanical Porcelain

circa 1755

RCIN 102351

These plates from the Chelsea manufactory are decorated with botanically accurate plants from the nearby Chelsea Physic Garden. Some of these were drawn from the work of G.D. Ehret (displayed nearby, cat. 183), who illustrated a volume of specimens from the Garden; others seem to be drawn from direct observation of the plants together with the insects which pollinated them. Purchased by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Cat. 184
