Albin was an art teacher with a passion for the natural world. He was encouraged to publish this work by his patron, the Dowager Duchess of Beaufort. He prided himself on the visual accuracy of his illustrations, both as to detail and colour. He dedicated the first edition of this work in 1720 to Caroline, Princess of Wales. Probably acquired by George III, by 1780 Cat. 180
