Marcellus Laroon the Younger (1679-1772)
A Dinner Party c. 1719-25
Laroon depicts, with a comic tone, a company of guests gathered for dessert, indulging in red wine imported from Italy, hothouse fruits and flirtation. The host is clearly a man of fashion, showing off his skill in pouring wine from a height to aerate it, into a set of matching wine glasses, while expensive Chinese porcelain and silver appears on his table.
First recorded at Kensington Palace in 1818
