Is this portrait by Raphael and does it represent Raphael? The original inscriptions on the eyelets of the cloak ‘RAFFAELLO’ and ‘URBINUS’ may refer to the artist or the sitter. The portrait is probably a pastiche of a Raphael by an artist who knew his work well, or a copy of a lost original.
