This is a study for the figure of the seated girl on the extreme left of The Penny Wedding. Wilkie usually produced detailed figural studies as he finalised poses and connections between figures. He adjusted the pose of this seated guest in the finished painting, raising her arm to tie up the skirts of the woman beside her who is about to step out to dance. Purchased by King George Vl
