DAVID FARQUHARSON (1840-1907)

View of Strathmore with Harvesters

Signed and dated 1881

RCIN 409023

David Farquharson, from Blairgowrie in Perthshire, exhibited scenes of rural life at the Royal Scottish Academy from 1868 onwards. He was concerned less with the detail of country life and labour, than with the rhythms of the seasons and the variations of the weather. Here, his main interest is the play of light on the haystacks and the atmospheric conditions that prevail across the deep valley.

Purchased by Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, 1956
