RCIN 2945144

St Isaac’s Cathedral, commissioned by Alexander I in 1818, was only completed 40 years later in the reign of Alexander II. It is seen here as a building site with wooden fencing all around its perimeter. The cathedral is dedicated to the patron saint of Peter the Great, St Isaac of Dalmatia.
