The Kremlin Palace contains five reception rooms named after the Orders of the Russian Empire with St George’s Hall being the largest. This photograph shows its complex system of illumination with 2,300 candles linked together which could be lit up in seven minutes.

Probably acquired by the Prince and Princess of Wales, 1874.
