In 1816, Nikolai Nikitich Demidov (1773–1828) encouraged Louis Carbonelle, a collaborator of Thomire, to encourage London society to purchase gilt-bronze mounted malachite furnishings. A similar pair, now at Versailles, were given by Alexander I to Napoleon I and a further pair furnish the Malachite Room ofthe Winter Palace. Two further columns are mentioned in an exchange of correspondence between Demidov and the Thomire workshop in 1823.
