These two sketches were studies for Hayter’s large painting of the marriage ceremony commissioned by Queen Victoria. The painting now hangs in the State Apartments at Kensington Palace. In both drawings Hayter seems to have had trouble positioning Prince Albert’s legs. The final painting shows the couple standing.
