Pepper's ghost
The Victorian scientist and educator 'Professor' John Henry Pepper popularised a technique to make ghostly figures appear on stage, which amazed theatrical audiences in the second half of the nineteenth century. An updated version of this technique has been used during the 2019 Summer Opening exhibition Queen Victoria's Palace to recreate the Crimean Ball of June 1856.
