DAVID POOLE (B. 1931)

The Duke of Edinburgh

1986

RCIN 400708

The three portraits of the Duke of Edinburgh were painted by David Poole, President of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters from 1983 to 1991. They were derived from sittings, notes and studies made for a portrait of the Duke painted for the City of London in 1977. The portraits were given by the President and Members of the Society to The Queen on her sixtieth birthday in 1986.
