Patron of design
Prince Philip notably championed modern design, founding The Duke of Edinburgh’s Prize for Elegant Design in 1959 (now the Prince Philip Designers Prize). The same year he was closely involved in the design of the Casson Suite at Windsor Castle; a small group of guest rooms for official visitors designed by the architect Sir Hugh Casson and furnished in a contemporary style. The furniture and studio pottery here is from this suite.
