    On 10 July 1947, the engagement of Princess Elizabeth to Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten was announced. Dorothy Wilding was commissioned to capture the official engagement portraits at Buckingham Palace. Wilding’s distinctive style is evident in the directional lighting and minimal background.
