Wayside flowers and native species, rather than exotic new plant imports, decorate the pages of this verse album compiled by the Scotswoman, Esther Inglis. Here, a watercolour of a buttercup embellishes an edifying verse by the French poet Antoine de la Roche Chandieu (1534 – 91). Inglis produced almost sixty presentation manuscripts in the course of her forty-year career as a scribe.
