Sir Peter Paul Rubens, 1577–1640 PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN Oil on panel, c.1630 RCIN 400118 This striking portrait belonged to Rubens’ in-laws, and is assumed to represent a member of his family, which would explain its directness and informality. Rubens learned from Titian an ideal beauty of oval cheeks and almond eyes; he adds a fleshiness of his own in the dimples and the folds in the neck.
