Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon

Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon was born on 4 August 1900, the ninth child and fourth daughter of Lord and Lady Glamis, who became Earl and Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne in 1904 on the death of Lord Glamis’s father, the 13th Earl. Almost exactly a year after these portraits were made, Lady Elizabeth became engaged to the Duke of York (later King George VI) on 13 January 1923.
