The artist, Yoshio Markino, arrived in London in 1897 and quickly grew to love the city, writing that ‘Age and the fogs have made the buildings so beautiful’. The scene is presented with the simplicity of a Japanese print, but the colours are muted and the winding path through Green Park introduces a strong sense of perspective.
