The Prince of Wales conducts a number of investitures each year on behalf of The Queen. On these occasions those who have been awarded orders, decorations or medals receive them in a formal ceremony. In 2003 the Prince invested the actress Helen Mirren with the insignia of Dame of the British Empire in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. In 2006 she gained international renown for her performance in The Queen.
