A hand-coloured print relating to the Mary Ann Clarke scandal of 1809. Mrs Clarke sits astride a cannon and strikes a spike into it to render it useless; a reference to the Duke of York's impotence in the face of the scandal that rocked the country. In the background, flee members of the army and church to the sound of a woman beating a drum. On the right and on his knees, is the Duke of York lamenting his future and bemoaning his fate. Inscribed in the plate: Pubd. March 13th 1809 by Thos. Tegg No 111 Cheapside
