WILLIAM ROGERS (FL.1589-1604)

Henry VIII and his successors

c.1600

RCIN 600843

This print is a retrospective record of the succession of Henry’s three children. The King is enthroned in the centre, handing a sword to Edward, who kneels on the dais. To the left stands Mary, with her husband Philip II of Spain. To the right is Elizabeth I, accompanied by figures representing Peace and Plenty. The print is a copy of a painting of c.1572 (now in the National Museum Wales) presented by Elizabeth to Sir Francis Walsingham.
