Maine has been a member of the Westminster Abbey Fabric Commission since 1997, a position which enabled him to study the Cosmati pavement closely, leading to an exhibition at the Royal Academy in 2011 entitled 'After Cosmati'. This drawing was made in 2012 for the Diamond Jubilee Portfolio after one of his preliminary sketches for that exhibition.
