GUSTAV WILLIAM HENRY MULLINS (1854-1921)

Queen Victoria (1819-1901)

22 Jun 1897

RCIN 2105789

A portrait of Queen Victoria as she appeared on the day of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 1897. She wrote in her Journal for that day, from Buckingham Palace: 'A never to be forgotten day. No one ever I believe, has met with such an ovation as was given to me, passing through those 6 miles of streets, including Constitution Hill. The crowds were quite indescribable & their enthusiasm truly marvellous & deeply touching. The cheering was quite deafening, & every face seemed to be filled with real joy. I was much moved and gratified.'
