Princess Alice was the elder of the two children of the Duke and Duchess of Albany. In 1904 she married Prince Alexander of Teck, the youngest brother of the future Queen Mary. In 1917 Prince Alexander assumed the title of Earl of Athlone; his wife was known as Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, until her death in 1981.
