William Boyd Carpenter was Bishop of Ripon from 1884 to 1911, having earlier been a Chaplain to Queen Victoria from 1879 to 1884 and a Canon of Windsor from 1882 to 1884. He and his wife had four sons and six daughters, one of whom was Beatrice.
