This transcript by Etienne de Monnot is a copy of the advice written by James II for his son and Catholic heir, James Francis Edward Stuart (later known as the Old Pretender). Written during his exile, he advises his son against mistresses, drunkenness and ambition, but also to be steadfast in the Catholic faith. Cat. 214
