PAUL SANDBY (1731-1809)

The north front of the Castle from the Maestricht Pond

c. 1765

RCIN 914582

The Sandby brothers made distant views of the Castle using wide sheets of paper suitable for such landscapes or panoramas. Windsor is surrounded by parks and forests, part of its attraction as a country retreat for the monarch. This view is taken from across a lake in the Home Park, known then as the Little Park.
