CANALETTO (VENICE 1697-VENICE 1768)

Venice: The Palazzo Ducale and Molo

c.1734

RCIN 907450

The viewpoint is from low on the quay at the end of the Riva degli Schiavoni. The Palazzo Ducale is drawn very precisely, with the correct number of small arches (34) on the first floor, and the differences between the windows on the main floor recorded accurately – the four to the left simply criss-crossed with glazing bars, the two to the right with gothic tracery and on a lower level.
