CANALETTO (VENICE 1697-VENICE 1768)

Venice: The Bacino from the Punta di Sant'Antonio

c.1740

RCIN 907456

Like the next two drawings, the view is taken from the Punta di Sant’Antonio. San Giorgio Maggiore is seen through the rigging of the moored ship. To the left is the island of the Giudecca, with the domes of the Zitelle and the Redentore, and the Euganean hills on the horizon. To the right are the Campanile, the Palazzo Ducale and the domes of San Marco, followed by the dome of San Zaccaria and the tower of San Giorgio dei Greci.
