FRANCIS BEDFORD (1815-94)

The Dunedin Crozier designed by William Burges

circa1866-7

RCIN 2081246

This photograph is part of an album of photographs documenting the work of the architect and designer William Burges (1827 – 81). In the 1850s, Burges and Bedford both worked in the studio of the architect and art historian M. Digby Wyatt. It is likely they knew each well and as a result this album was created. The Dunedin crozier was designed in 1865-6 by Burges for the first Bishop of Dunedin in New Zealand. First documented in the Royal Collection in the reign of King George V
